Not idol worship, rather, it’s silly to complain about JS when tools like NoScript allow you to selectively choose what runs instead of guessing what it is. It’s simply a documentation page like it says on the URL. I mean, they’re incredibly tame on the danger scale to leave your guard all the way up and instead take a jab at the entire community that had nothing to do with your personal choices.

What are you on about? The archetypal angel wings are distinctly made of adult bird feathers, so it’s natural to assume that these are too without indication of it being otherwise. Or what, are generic centaur bottom halves not meant to be hairy even though they’re archetypically based on horses? Of course I would expect distinctly coarse hair if I were to touch them because I have touched horses before.
And what’s more, out of context, this graphic makes no special case of commenting on a character specifically but rather its main point is about the logistics of putting on and taking off a wife beater with a pair of wings attached to your back. And somehow you’re griping about people following the logic in the comments? If you’re so dead-set about it being about the specific character, then why did you cut out the context in the first place?
Or what, am I supposed to be familiar with every single winged character out there that ever existed to know their particular details about their wings? I’m clearly going off on derivative works of the most generic ancient Greek mythology that was based on real life animals.

Yup, and now add to that the jumpscare, the heart racing with the palpitations, the strong headache, the mood change, and the subsequent stress. If it were just “oh, I’m just not going to think about this,” it’d be great, but there’s a visceral physical reaction on top of the emotional one that no doubt includes stress hormones. I’m entering fight-or-flight for a split second, and not an ethical dilemma.

This conversation always comes back to this every time I bring it up, which is why I included so many hyphenated adjectives trying to be specific. I’m saying, why are we including huge pictures that take up the entire screen when they aren’t necessary and contribute nothing to the post? Small images are fine and I can manage, but these are 1200x900 pixel images to give a rough estimate. I’ve been flashed with 1920x1080 pictures of a snake in videos about Python when it wasn’t necessary and was completely unrelated to the topic. I don’t have a button for that.

And yes, I do actively use uBlock Origin’s element picker on desktop but its behavior is not consistent and it doesn’t exist on mobile apps for Lemmy either. I have to maneuver around this in the most impractical way, exposing me to this for far longer than I’d like. If I could manage, I wouldn’t say anything for getting so much backlash, tbh.

Yes, and I practice that but that’s not universal and there are many instances where that doesn’t work.
And I’d argue: why are we including blown-up, close-up, screen-wide images to posts of interest about programming when the image is completely unrelated? Articles about Python are especially egregious.

I’ve politely asked people not to share blown up, screen-wide pictures on this site of my common phobia when it’s unrelated to the post and I’ve been straight up downvoted and insulted, being told I’m exaggerating and “defective”.
Phobias are not exaggerations, they can make people do shit because the reaction is visceral when unexpected. I get headaches and feel like shit after. One of my middle school teachers shared that she once almost jumped off a roof when she saw a cat behind her.

Yes, for me it’s the hypocrisy of the base. Imagine if Michelle or Hillary had been listed on that website Melania was on and had their pictures circulating. Imagine if those families had decorated the White House with some gaudy shit. Like Obama said, “imagine if I had done any of that”. The commenters are missing the point.

It gets quite silly when you blame the entire dev community for supposedly downvoting you over ideals rather than being overly strict about them. I also prefer HTML-first and think it should be the norm, but I draw the line somewhere reasonable.
