Political Memes@lemmy.world•It brings me no pleasure to have to point this out, but if you're looking for some democracy that needs protecting, I know a guy...
1·11 months agoPersonally kind of radical even for the social democracy i live in so I’m heavily biased but I feel like when people do talk about US-American democracy democracy as a term (rule of the people) is doing so much heavy lifting to maybe a comical extent.
While the Republican party is obviously much worse the Democratic party was still garbage. As an outsider I’m getting the impression that a lot of the momentum Trump was getting was repurposing radical thought because people while not understanding at all what Trump was doing and are at best naive felt unrepresented, abondened and overlooked and often rightfully so. That the election race was like it was does not feel like a coincidence but rather a show of how undemocratic the system really is. Besides its not like the system has not sponsored a range of fascistic coups externally to further its own interests.
Im rambling but I kind of see a liberal election as being able to pick your opposition, not your allies.
Correct. Felt like risking using the word without redundant labels when answering “What kind of leftist are you?”. Results could be better but it was kinda fun seeing so many responses ngl
Also what kind of authoritarian leftist are you? The left landscape is kind of weak where I am so I am actually member of an authoritarian leftist party as they are the only ones locally I know whose comfortable carrying the label of revolutionary. Feels like grasping at straws but its something for now maybe.
No? I prefer trains. (Not referring to anything special its just that public tranport is goated)
Can’t say I heard of him. I try focusing on reading anarchist theory atm. Halfway though conquest of bread at least. Though some personalities like Noam Chomsky and David Graeber are interesting.
Eeew? Sad leftist noises Can’t we just conquer bread or something together? sniff sniff
Nah as using it with some respect to its orgins of being coined by Joseph Déjaque as a synonym to anarchism as it was illegal at the time. Personally use it as an umbrella term for anti-authoritarian socialist thought. Not whatever “Libertarians” do in the USA.
A libertarian myself thanks for asking.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•How embarrassing it must be to lose to this guy. Democracy is dead not because Trump policy but because we dont have any functional parties.
21·2 years agoHow about because of the political system that doesnt make rulers accountable to their base and give little incentive to appeal to anyone but the well of? Just make yourself slightly more appealing than the opposition
I suppose you could be a free-market type of market socialist? Heavily doubt its common though

Not fully anarchist by my own standards but I’m excited enact my evil authoritarian plan of bottum up direct-democracy mohahaha.
