  • Socialism in political theory is the idea that, at minimum, some systems should be owned by the collective - that’s it. The Road system in the US is largely a socialist project, for reference. USPS was also a socialist project before it was privatized. So is our now mostly defunded education system. Our fucking amazing national park system was also a socialist project to create jobs during the great recession. And the only reason that these things are going downhill is because we’ve defunded them.

Other things socialists want would be federally funded healthcare, a federally maintained train system, college being funded by US taxes, etc.

Yes, stalinism, communism, and Maoism are socialist ideologies. So is social democracy, the Nordic model, and various others.

You’re brainwashed based on your reaction to that word.

  • No, these points strongly line up with liberalism, and that final point actually diverges from US leftist rhetoric ATM.

Anarchists are pretty often saying ‘learn to use a firearm for your own safety’ right now. As in ‘arm the LGBT’ line of convo.

Marxists are often saying ‘learn to use a firearm, we need them for the revolution’.

Hell, even US people who are strongly aligned with maintaining democracy are now saying ‘get a gun so we can throw this shithead out of office’. I don’t doubt this rhetoric is similar in other countries dealing with soon-to-be dictators.

In the US at least, Gun control is currently much more aligned with liberalism than leftism. It’s gotten that bad.

  • Why’d you go with Capital ‘P’ ‘Progressive’ and lowercase ‘d’ ‘democrat’?

If you are a Progressive, it means you run as a progressive in politics. If your a ‘progressive’, though, it means you hold progressive ideals, like women’s rights, nationalized services for people, open borders, etc.

If you’re a ‘democrat’, it means you are a supporter of democracies, as opposed to authoritarian regimes, feudal states, or vangaurd states. If you’re a ‘Democrat’, though, it means you are apart of the Democratic party.

    Politics is case-sensitive.

  • This is so true. I remember hearing about the two Israeli officials who were shot and I was stuck thinking: " was this motivated out of antisemitism and he just happened to hit legitimate targets instead of some innocent folks, or was the guy actually acting out of rage and sadness for what he’s seen in Gaza?". Nowadays it seems like you can’t even tell immediately - like you’ve gotta wait for more info. It was a relief to find out that everyone who knew the shooter agreed that he was not antisemitic, and chose to platform justice for Gaza when asked about the shooter.

  • This is not about Canada’s sovereignty, it’s about a shitty list the US keeps about which places it’ll accept as a new state. It’s a worthless piece of paper. Canada would already have to consent to becoming a state for it to be even relevant, and that’s not happening without a war.

So this article is fluff. Neither Washington nor Puerto Rico were ever going to be a state under trump, Canada won’t either without a war, so this list getting rearranged doesn’t mean Jack squat about current politics. It’s another stupid stunt meant to distract you from actually important issues.

  • For anyone who is working in the oil industry: as things get worse and more people are impacted by climate change more and more, you’re who those effected will come after. Not the CEOs high up and out of reach - it’s gonna be you guys operating the rigs, inspecting the pipelines, driving the tankers, operating the plants, and crunching the numbers. It’s going to be you who gets targeted because you’re the ones with the logo stamped on your uniforms.
