Like other people have said, it’s going to depend on what you want to do with the NAS. If it’s going to be a pure NAS (ie network storage only), then using onboard will be fine. If you plan on doing other things (home assistant, media server, etc), I recommend going the virtual machine + HBA route.

I used a hodge-podge of chinesium parts and leftover drives to create a DAS system that hooks up to an HBA via DAC. I’m actually kinda surprised how stable it’s all been.

I have a “server” cobbled together out of old PC parts. I have proxmox running on it and Home Assistant is one of the VMs running on that machine.

I think the other thing that people need to remember is that when online on platforms like Lemmy, Twitter, etc, you aren’t just having a one on one conversation. There are other people reading the exchange. People who would otherwise be allies, can still be alienated, even without anyone directly saying anything to them.

Also, there seems to be far too many people who are willing to let perfect be the enemy of good. If your opinions don’t exactly match theirs, you are indoctrinated, evil, stupid, malicious, etc.

All you have to do is come up with a new name for it. It’s not like any of them have a clue about what socialism actually entails.

I’m learning to hate it right now too. For some reason, its refusing to upload a local image from my laptop, and the alarm that comes up tells me exactly nothing useful.

“Elites” is about as useless a word as “woke” or “terrorist”; depending on who you ask, you will get wildly different (and often mutually exclusive) answers on what it means.

I find that the thing people need to remember is that the general election is purely damage control time. For actual change, and getting candidates that don’t suck, the work needs to already be done by the time the election rolls around.

Most of the “what if” scenarios that I’ve come across focus on what if the Nazis hadn’t attacked the USSR when they did. If Germany was fighting on one front at a time, the question becomes does Germany take the UK, and if so, does the US directly enter the war at all?
