2·1 year agoCan those be valued at 1Bn?
Ok, yes, there are these examples:
Instagram: When Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012, the company had only 13 employees and was valued at $1 billion.
WhatsApp: When Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014, the company had around 55 employees, but it had previously raised funding at a valuation of $1.5 billion with a much smaller team.
Duo Security: In 2018, Cisco acquired Duo Security for $2.35 billion. At the time of acquisition, Duo had around 10 employees.
Nutanix: While not exactly a small startup at the time of valuation, Nutanix was valued at $1.2 billion in 2013 with around 10-15 employees.
(disclaimer: I sourced these from gpt and have not fact checked them)

6·1 year agoI’m fine with that, it just sounds like these people think they can commodify that kind of dedication in exchange for much less than what you got creating your own.

131·1 year agoYeah, I’d rather pay for clear-minded hours of a worker, rather than near-burnout hours. But the guy doesn’t care, he’s trying to compete by saving in wages…at the frontline of tech. It makes no sense either way.

49·1 year agoWhat I don’t get is…they can just hire more people to do the work and expand the company? When you consider this, you realize that they’re just asking people to work 40% more without an increase in pay (hence hiring more people is not an option)…then they call it “productivity gains”.

7·1 year agoIt’s value pluralism.
Yes, I agree that it should not be taken as dogma, but there is some value in having some good faith well though out cross-generational legal inertia that evolves slowly with culture and technological developments over time…which would be the job of SCOTUS.
they’d all be branded as radical wokes by magats. Jesus too.
Isn’t the US constitution the first written constitution in the world? (besides the 10 commandments, if that counts) It may look outdated today, but it was a great legal innovation at the time and influenced world history up to today.
They read a lot of history, particularly the english civil war, the roman civil wars. They were aware of the limitations of democracy and the vulnerability to demagogues, but they still thought it was superior to monarchy, “if you can keep it”.
Will there be cold berders too?

6·1 year agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_stamp_(politics)
One of the most famous examples of a rubber stamp institution is the Reichstag of Nazi Germany, which unanimously confirmed all decisions already made by Adolf Hitler and the highest-ranking members of the Nazi Party.[citation needed] Many legislatures of authoritarian and totalitarian countries are considered[by whom?] as rubber stamps, such as communist parliaments like the Chinese National People’s Congress,[3][4][5] or the Italian Chamber of Fasces and Corporations during the Fascist regime.[citation needed]
Since the 2003 elections, Russia’s Federal Assembly has been similarly referred to as a rubber stamp institution.[6][7][8] Russia’s State Duma (the lower house of the Federal Assembly) quickly adopted a number of laws proposed by the government without delay.[9] The annexation of Crimea was quickly approved in 2014 with only one deputy, Ilya Ponomarev, voting against.[10][11] During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the legislative approvals of the annexation of occupied territories in late 2022 did not meet any resistance, giving the government full control.[12]
Other suggested examples of rubber stamp legislatures include:
Historic legislatures
Reichstag – Nazi Germany
Chamber of Deputies, Chamber of Fasces and Corporations – Fascist Italy (1925 – 1943)
General Assembly – Ottoman Empire
Congress of Soviets, Supreme Soviet – Soviet Union
Volkskammer – German Democratic Republic[13]
National Consultative Assembly – Imperial State of Iran[14][better source needed]
Federal Senate – Brazil under military dictatorship between 1977 and 1985[15]
People’s Assembly – Syrian Arab Republic[16][17][18][19]
Current legislatures
Federal Assembly – Russia[6][7][8][12]
Parliament – Egypt[20][21][22]
Islamic Consultative Assembly and the Assembly of Experts (not a parliamentary chamber but a deliberative body) – Iran
Supreme People’s Assembly – North Korea[25]
National People’s Congress – China[a]
