  • I find these bullshit false dichotomies to be beyond annoying. Stop trying to kill nuance, it’s not either or. Two things can be bad at the same time with different extents. Acknowledging this fact allows you to take in more context and actually form a principled point of view rather than a reactionary one. Lemmy is filled to the brim with pissing matches that boil down to “WhAt aBoUt ThIs GuY?!?!” because everything is oversimplified and reactionary.

  • I’m fully convinced that the vast majority of Twitter activity post Musk purchase is just bots talking with each other. I’m confident that we’ll look back at the zombie corpse of Twitter as the first real instance of dead internet theory in practice.

The reason why I say this is because there’s no way any genuine users are left on that site. Twitter in the 2010s was already notorious for being the most worst cesspit on the internet, so much so that its user base was already on the decline long before Musk bought the platform. After the purchase, Musk went out of his way to make Twitter as unusable as possible, and this was enough to make most people jump ship because not was Twitter just as, if not more toxic, but not the platform is just shit to use.

If you go to Twitter now and see what’s going on there, you’ll see that it’s virtually all just politicians, corporations, orgs, only fans girls, celebrities, and right wing grifters… most of these were already run by bots long ago, but now most of the “normal” users are bot as well. If you go to any twitter thread, you’ll see a lot of faceless accounts that all happen to parrot the same talking points that happen to mysteriously align with Musk’s personal views on things.

  • This is something that has been well known and well documented for a very long time now. We’ve had reports and evidence from dozens of countries, not just the US. We’ve even had both Russia and China publicly admit that they’re doing this.

The only people who deny this are either far left tankies who just happen to to simp for Russia and China or far right neo nazis who also just happen to simp for Russia and China. I sure wonder where Russia and China are focusing their propaganda campaigns…

  • If you’re condemning and condoning the same behavior based on whether or not you like/agree with the person, then you don’t believe in the underlying principle at all. Simple put, you care more about your political team getting one in on the other team than maintaining a civil society.

I’m more disappointed than anything. I’m disappointed that he got killed the way he did. I’m disappointed that the left cheered for it. I’m disappointed the right treated him as if he was Jesus. I’m disappointed that school shootings have become so normalized. However, nothing disappoints me more than knowing that nothing is going change because my fellow Americans don’t give a fuck about all this needless violence.

  • But this is only true if you accept the Marxist interpretation of labor, class, and economics. I don’t accept the Marxist analysis as a valid one because the ideology itself is both outdated and flawed (both in theory and practice).

Like I agree with the general notion that oligarchs are a problem, but I don’t agree with the Marxist notion that labor is the source of all value in an economy (it isn’t) or that the solution is some form of a planned economy which has been shown to not be in effective historically.

  • When you argue that, “You can be both a capitalist and a worker.” this is not using the term capitalist in the same way as the post. In other words, if we concede your point that there are two ways to understand “capitalist”, then your original comment is not addressing the claim at issue.

Reasonable point. The way I see it is this. A capitalist, in the sense that it’s meant in the meme and my statement, implies that somebody has capital to invest. This isn’t necessarily tied to billionaires. A lot of working class people invest their money in hopes of making more. A lot of working class parents and grandparents put their lives savings into a rental properties to help them during their retirement. Most main street businesses are owned by locals. A good chunk of the stock market is owned by small investors. Obviously, these aren’t going to have the impact of a Bezos or Zuckerburg type of money, but they still count. These are examples of working class people who are also capitalists.

Allegations of sexual crimes should always be taken seriously and addressed immediately, however, that’s not the same as taking the words of the victims words as the truth. A due process has to be mandatory and proof must remain a non negotiable requirement to arrest and punish someone. That’s the one and only way justice can be served.
