Huh…if I was running a DnD campaign again I would actually totally do this; ironically my players aren’t…heroic/humble? If the townsfolk began reacting negatively to the characters, the players would just stop fighting the bad guys. Spider-man would continue helping people if they hated him as much as JJ hates him because he can’t help but be heroic, my players would not. I’d have to confine the effects of the newspaper to just the newspaper itself.

The way the stories are depicted they always dehumanize the invaded populations; after soldiers kill freedom fighters (who are always depicted as the bad guys), they also show civilians who get caught up and then the marine has a little breakdown over it, or has to hide his pain, or even that the civilians may have been trying to protect the fighter because he was family to them, and basically the story is told in a way to make you want to make excuses for the soldier. Meanwhile real soldiers are more like Platner who go back for multiple tours and talk about how they like infantry combat, or the people who brutalize the population at a level just beneath getting them legal consequences.
I would say we need a new red dawn movie from the perspective of the Soviet (DPRK in the modern one) troops to get the message across, something that probably rips off a famous war movie that most have seen, to really hammer home how ridiculous modern war movies are but truthfully? I do genuinely think too many people are far too obtuse to understand; also every now and then a lib cracks and admits he believe our troops are good people while Russian troops are bad people.
Perhaps what we also really need are movies from the perspective of the freedom fighters, but forget depicting them in a sympathetic light; depict them like Rambo, kicking butt and taking dogtags/names, and the troops in a similar depiction as the Persians in 300.

If this king doesn’t have access to wizards casting every defensive spell in the player’s handbook on him every single day of his life, wearing the best magical armor in the world that glamors into ordinary royal attire, with defensive wards cast around his immediate vicinity every day, and he just let adventurers stroll into his castle armed while he was being lax with all these precautions, then he deserves to get Kirked.

I hate this; back in 3e/3.5e a keen scimitar could crit on a 17 because a scimitar’s crit range was 18-20 (keen widens crit range)

Literally did this as the bard-healer of the group; one of the players got swallowed by a construct, so I went in after him, healed him and then cast heat metal on my armor…and then had to heal him again (I had full HP).
(Or maybe I cast heat metal on the construct; can’t remember, it’s been ages)
Throw it between each other between attacks; fighter makes his attacks, then tosses it to the druid to make his attacks, and then he tosses it back, and so on and so forth
I’ll paint a scenario and then you tell me what your action would be:
You come across a corridor, there’s a villain pulling a dead body off the wall; his face had been pushed into an indentation in the shape of a human face; the eyes of the indentation are holes allowing you to see into another room, although it is dark and what lays beyond isn’t immediately visible. In the hall before the face indentation are dead bodies; their eyes, along with the eyes of the body pulled from the wall, are smoking craters. When you near the indentation, you are struck by fear and it slows your movement.
What do you do?
My players were like “I stick my face in the indentation and look inside”; there was a bodak in the other room and the guards were using this place as an execution chamber.
When the party cleric is also the tank
Literally 3e/3.5e cleric; can wear any heavy armor, can use all shields except for the tower shield, and divine spells have NO spell failure chance
I remember my party + DM were shocked when my cleric charged to the front of the line during combat because they were used to 4e clerics and traditional cloth wearing WoW priests; I was rocking the highest AC in the party
Guessing they couldn’t think of a way of finagling Russian in there too
I remember having an argument about the little mermaid movie years ago; the guy was complaining that a black lady was cast and I had to ask: “what do you care? You’re not gonna watch it”; he looked stunned for a second and then said “yeah but still…”, to which I had to reiterate “WHAT DO YOU CARE? YOU’RE NOT GONNA WATCH IT!”
