Just to add that I have become quite allergic to the “pre-emptive strike”, “weapons of mass destruction “ justification for war. Have we learned nothing?

Did you read this? His mental faculties were very clearly failing him during his term. Obviously, he could not have remained in office for 4 more years: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/may/25/original-sin-joe-biden-book-review
World population will reach a maximum of 9 million and then slowly decline as birth rates have fallen massively everywhere. However, in some countries the birth rate has fallen so much that it will be a huge problem. In those countries young people will have almost no peers while growing up, and in the context of Democracy old people will have a majority. See the Kurzgesagt video for what live will be like in South Korea: https://youtu.be/Ufmu1WD2TSk

This, but also there is massive competition for getting Trumps favor among his minions. A public statement like this pleases Trump, and so Vance gets to be a bit closer to daddy. Trump loves this type of competition among his underlings, and so all of them attempt to outcompete each other in stupidity.

Dems hold the key because there will be some GOP holdouts in both the house and senate. It is imperative to vote against the proposal because 1. It is good politics, and 2. It puts some breaks on executive overreach.
However, prepare to find those same centrist Dems who did not want to extend the debt ceiling under Biden vote in favor of this proposal to look BiparTiSan.

It’s a Facebook link… maybe at least give a blurb on why I should click it.
Doesn’t seem to be a difficult choice. The US is preying on its closest allies, threatening to annex Canada, and Greenland. China is not.

I think this independence is an illusion in the current globalised environment and it would be very difficult to attain it even for a very large country like the US (and completely out of reach for small countries).
Let’s take the example of food. Does your country depend on imports of fertiliser? What about animal feed (soy beans)? I am guessing the answer to both these questions yes.
The point is, we are in this together. For a small nation this is trivially obvious, but larger nations like to pretend they can do things alone. And then you get people like Trump that play on these sentiments.

I actually think the security guarantee is an illusion. If we are all dependent on one another we’re less likely to go to war. Conversely, If all countries start competing over the same resources the chances of war increase

I would hope she runs for president not senate.

I really don’t think so. Putin will not give the US such a big win in the Arctic. The point about nationalism is that you can be friends with another nationalist leader, but only up to a point when there is some perceived divergence of interest. Therefore you cannot have a long term alliance between them. Putin understands this well (even if Trump does not).

Also, huge scandal breaks out and you don’t check your personal records before giving a response?

We would indeed prefer shipping to Suez. That’s why we deploy navy ships to the Red Sea. Doesn’t mean that we asked for this particular strike on Jemen (which as many already pointed out is unlikely to affect piracy much). You can’t say you do something for Europe when to my knowledge no European nation asked for this “aide”.

Not particularly technically inclined so this question may be stupid, but suppose an intelligence service found some backdoor into Signal, wouldn’t they try to keep that information hidden from Signal? So in theory the chat could be vulnerable already?

European here: we did not ask for your help, we do not particularly want you to bomb the houthis (or anyone in the Middle East for that matter).
I have heard accounts that his contributions are greatly exaggerated. He certainly did not invent AC electricity which I guess is why you assume that Tesla gave us electricity. See here for some more info https://youtu.be/6331JXvOUGY

Fully agree. I hate these clickbait articles that for example say“Here is why Trump wants to annex Canada as the 51st state” to proceed explaining me about Canada’s strategic location and it’s mineral resources.
No Trump does not have a rational idea about why he wants to annex Canada, beyond “it looks nice on the map”, and all the mineral wealth in the world does not make up for the cost of antagonising your closest ally.
These ideas are all completely bonkers. You may have discovered a rational justification, but 1. Trump is not a rational actor, and 2. The justification is always insufficient to cover the damage it does to the US, and the world.
The order of business is to first remove taxes for people earning more than 1 million, before in a second step attempting to balance the budget. If (and only if) that second step succeeds will people under 150,000 see a tax cut. In other words that will never happen.

Yes indeed, but also primaries can help to attract voters. I think the Sanders campaigns, though he didn’t win, made young people more likely to vote Democrat.
The establishment pushing against him is a good thing. Think about what happened the first time Trump announced his candidacy. Voters love to vote for candidates that the establishment hates.
