Family Guy had the appearance of assumed knowledge, but really the writers know as little about what they’re talking about as you do.
Seriously controversial take: Seth McFarlane is one of the least funny people ever to live, he just knows how to make things sound like a joke whether it’s funny or not. He’s like some weird AI that just completely and utterly lacks any understanding of what a joke is outside of intonation and timing.

politics @lemmy.world•The unlikely coalition fighting to keep Energy Star labels on your appliances | The Trump administration wants to eliminate the energy-efficiency program
2·1 year agoYeah I didn’t mean to come down on the side of “shut it down” just that they have a history of absurdity even if they do mean well. I phrased myself poorly.

2·1 year agoI agree. I definitely don’t think that it should be shut down, I was just tactlessly trying to say something along the lines of “pick our battles” or maybe “this feels like a distraction.”

521·1 year ago“Energy efficiency program” right. I’m not actually heartbroken about an agency that famously gave certification to nonexistent products going away. It was always just a marketing ploy anyway. Can we maybe focus on the actual damage the fascists are trying to do?
Even if you’re not, who’s buying weed imported all the way from Asia? The farthest my weed comes from is BC, and that but rarely.

politics @lemmy.world•Anonymous hacker group ‘co-founder’ arrested
291·1 year agoExcept they didn’t catch the “co-founder” because there is no such person? Anyone claiming to have co-founded Anonymous is as full of shit as the media trying to portray it as such. Seriously, I would like to support this woman, but not in a way that denies reality.

1·2 years ago“Cock,” singular. It wouldn’t be a very interesting book. I don’t have any hard to pronounce problems, I’m just a jerk.

1·2 years agoI’m an IT person professionally, and I use Fedora as my daily driver. MacOS just grinds on me in ways I can’t properly articulate.
Edit: oh wait, maybe I can!

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•When a real user uses the app
0·2 years agoYou honestly couldn’t pay me enough to use MacOS so I didn’t know there wasn’t a “computer icon” but I love that detail. I’m gonna go ahead and assume that whole anecdote is fictitious.

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•When a real user uses the app
0·2 years agoThat’s a very funny anecdote about Apple that I can find no evidence of ever actually happening. Leaving aside the fact that Xerox had GUI, including the modern WIMP GUI we’re all familiar with today, in 1974. The Apple Lisa was released at least a year before the Macintosh 128K came out in 1984. As much as I love the idea of Apple making such an amateur mistake, I’m going to need a reputable source before I believe that story actually happened.
Edit: I’m seeing a lot of “it’s technically possible” but still no sources to confirm that it actually occurred. Until a a verifiable source emerges, I’m still going to assume this story never actually happened. Anyone have Woz’s contact info? We could always just ask him.
