politics @lemmy.world•Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump's attempt to deploy Oregon National Guard to Portland - ABC News
19·11 months agoI’m thrilled that there’s some sort of government pushback, but I did think that “emergency naked bike ride” was absolutely the best Portland response ever. Keep on keepin’ on you glorious weirdos!
I think they’re saying they use the “Top -> 6 hrs” category to sort posts when they browse.

Just grabbed the first one searching for “Brett Flight of the Conchords,” but you get the idea. Great New Zealand comedy.
He looks a little like Bret from Flight of the Conchords in that photo. Still agree with your comment though.

politics @lemmy.world•US students enter seventh day of hunger strike for Gaza
2·1 year agoNever having done a hunger strike myself, I thought the following was interesting. It sounds like there’s kind of a medical protocol to it and I wonder what measures are taken when it’s deemed “dangerous.” Under these conditions I’m guessing some folks could last physically (no judgement on the mental toughness it takes!) for quite some time:
“The students have been drinking water with electrolytes and having their vitals tested twice a day.”
Pope Francis was from S. America, so technically this is not the first American pope.
Covfefe is probably served at conclvaves.

1·1 year agoI blame you 100% for discouraging learning rather than encouraging it. Shame is not a motivator. That has been proven over and over in basic epidemiology studies. It’s Psychology 101. It’s an appalling reflection of your basic education that you didn’t know that.

1·1 year agoI doubt every nuance of constitutional procedure and the loopholes by which they can be exploited in multiple branches, and minutiae which may or may not block each of those avenues is basic civics. Yet, here we are needing a daily understanding of all of that to appreciate the impact of each step of the latest chicanery.

16·1 year agoThank you for explaining. I feel like I’m becoming an armchair constitutional process hobbyist this year (against my natural inclinations). I appreciate you, and all the knowledgeable people who take the time to help educate.

16·1 year agoSo, if this is initially approved with a 2/3 majority can he still veto it and then they have to vote again? Or is there such a thing as a “veto-proof” initial passing?

1·1 year agoTo some extent, but more so to ensure people actually absorbed the training.
So if you train people on shitty practices, then they can pass their competency tests doing shitty things really well!
The actual training (typically called SOPs - standard operating procedures / policies or some such thing) quality is generally what makes a bigger difference. Those are typically reviewed annually or on some timeline based on risk and volatility.

politics @lemmy.world•US FDA suspends milk quality tests amid workforce cuts
20·1 year agoNo, it’s making sure people still know how to do their jobs that will be paused. If you work in a lab you have to do regular periodic training and then be tested on your ability to execute to those standards. Those tests of the lab workers are being paused until they’re in the new location. This is actually pretty common.
