Earlier this month, Zohran Mamdani went on Hot 97, New York’s preeminent hip-hop radio station, to tell the story of how he first entered politics. It’s a tale he’s told many times: In 2015, Mamdani started knocking on doors for an aspiring Queens city councilman, Ali Najmi. But when he told it this time, Mamdani highlighted the real reason he wanted to get involved.

That reason was Himanshu Suri, the Queens-raised rapper and co-founder of the groups Das Racist and Swet Shop Boys. Suri, better known as Heems, grew up with Najmi and had been campaigning on his childhood friend’s behalf.

What does it mean that they “must transfer to lose”? Is she saying if they transfer they lose their status and that that transfer is being forced, or that they must transfer or lose it?

What is the justification?

If corporations are people, is it racist to boycott them, especially whole industries?

As a metaphor I get it, but it seems to be a reference that I’m not getting.

It’s almost like someone backed out of an agreement that was already in place.

I think it would be mandatory. It’s against “preferred” pronouns, right? If they prefer to be called by pronouns that match their gender, it would be illegal to use them?

Maybe that’s not such a good thing.

I’m very clearly not a lawyer or expert in any way here, but once he’s convicted doesn’t that change things? He’s no longer on trial, he has a conviction hanging over his head, seem inhumane to me to force someone to wait for a sentence/punishment. It would be one thing to let him wait until after his term to serve time or pay a fine, but not knowing what the punishment is seems very wrong to me.

Would it matter though? Trump would find a reason regardless…
