  • I like this. I mean, the fact that the rules assist the narrative, but they’re not the narrative themselves.

For the desintegrate situation, I’d love for the GM to go something like:

“As you speak the final words of your incantation, Wizard, a thin green ray begins to form on your fingertip. The villain merely smirks, clicking his fingers. A wave of crimson energy smothers your hand, and your spell snuffs out like a candle. He brushes a piece of dust from his shoulder. 'Impatience. Such a childish trait. As I was saying…'”

The GM wouldn’t even explain what happened, just continue his narrative, and at some point the party would find that one of the nearby minions in hiding had a counterspell ready, for example.

There’s a massive cloud of smoke coming from the woods, we caught a guy coming out from there, we’re asking him to show us if that gasoline jerrycan-shaped object in the plastic bag that he’s holding is in fact a gas jerrycan, but he’s still refusing.

And you come out from the toilets “but how do you know that there’s a fire”?

  • Aww. It’s such a quirky and funny thought, imagine eating the rubble as an intimidation attempt, like, the guy just missed but is trying to turn it into a “that was intentional, I wanted you to know what I’m going to do to your BRAIN after I cave in your skull!”

This is the kind of stuff that makes a game memorable IMO. As a DM, even if you don’t want to allow it for some reason, just go along with it. Fake a roll and have the opponent yell back “Bahahah I haven’t even hit you yet and you’re already getting ready to start shitting bricks?!”

  • Such a monstrous clusterfuck, and you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone having been sacked, let alone facing actual charges over the whole debacle.

If anything, I’d say that’s the single best case for buying IBM - if you’re incompetent and/or corrupt, just go with them and even if shit hits the fan, you’ll be OK.

  • No. Nobody is “owed” empathy, you garner it through your actions and circumstances, which is why I and millions of people have absolutely zero empathy for this scumbag. This is a very simple case of you reap what you sow.

Murder can never be condoned or accepted, and it must be met with the appropriate consequences. I do however understand what would lead someone to believe their only hope for a future would be to put a bullet through this guy’s neck.

It’s the Luigi situation all over. Nobody condones murder, but we empathise more with the killer than with the asshole who was fucking us over.
