I’m fully aware this will come with downvotes, and that it really needs saying: Regardless of how you feel about police, they’re the only element of your society that can actually meaningfully help the populace defend itself from ICE right now. You WANT them feeling your pain too because if ICE had to fight the cops they would crumple immediately. It’s a lot harder to convince red state ideologues and armchair pundits that attacking police is justifiable and that the police are antifa (which hopefully they and everyone are, because the opposite of antifa is PRO-FASCIST).

tl;dr - This lazy inaccurate kind of humor isn’t helping you.

  • The Republicans never had any intention of negotiating a goddamn thing. Following their chosen leader’s mentality ‘negotiation’ is a bad faith process where you intimidate or coerce your opponent into concessions until they have nothing to offer and no power to leverage, at which point you absorb or destroy them. All of their actions and rhetoric reinforce this interpretation, you can attempt to change my mind on this, but I’m just as certain you’ll expose your own biases and ignorance in the process, so by all means, try me.

  • I definitely agree with you that DnD was legit, it deserved far more attention than it got, and not just for the writing and performances.

You can call that defensiveness if you like; I think that downplays the intent of pointing out the constant barrage of painfully biased internet whiners regarding anything comic book related at play culturally, but I’d argue there’s an objective measure that’s unfair in your criticism. In D&W the interpersonal violence is an extension of emotional processing, and an expression of who the characters are, and also why they are uniquely suited to help each other heal in ways their powers can’t help with. Basically, violence is all they know and how they both solve all their problems, and being unkillable gives an opportunity to work out other traumas without they typical consequence of ending people who would want to help. But yeah of course there’s an element of bias at play for all of us, and flaws in every movie to varying degrees.
