Primary goal is stated as holding deportees, but the option of holding US citizens was floated by El Salvador as well. Deporting US citizens in this matter should currently be illegal.

I’m with you, they seem to really like being the underdogs and it seems to work out well for them from a fundraising perspective. It definitely feels like they’re angling to just barely lose.

I hope they eventually prove me wrong too, but it does feel like when they do well enough to win it’s mostly an unfortunate accident in their eyes.

At a certain point, they realized that they make more money when they lose. The end goal of both parties isn’t to win, it’s to make the most money for their members. The democrats just happen to have stumbled into a situation where they have a perverse incentive to fuck things up just enough to barely lose so that they can keep their funding up.

I think this kind of exemplifies our problem. We’re more focused on keeping up partisan divides than we are on celebrating what brings us together. I’m guilty of it too, but it’s not supposed to be Left vs. Right, it’s a class struggle and we’ve let them create a situation where all we want to do is fight amongst ourselves.

It’s kind of sad, but we have to temper expectations on both of the candidates. These two both hit retirement age over a decade ago and we’re trying to put them in potentially the most stressful job in the nation.

• Hostilities were mostly over, but these two were technically alive during World War 2.
• The first meeting of the United Nations was after these two were born.
• The current incarnation of India as a country is younger than these two.
• They’re both older than NATO.
• We only had 48 states when these two were born.
• These two were already out of high school when Martin Luther King delivered his speech.

I could just keep going forever on these. I am not sure that this is the job for anyone so far removed from their prime.
