  • Not that I’m not crossing everything except the streams that she beats the fascist, but women ≠ Harris voters. Trump won the white women vote in both 16 and 20.

Even now, there’s a shitload of racist and/or religious white women eagerly voting away their own rights, so don’t celebrate yet!

I am deep undercover with all of my acquaintances, and it is astonishing how many of them are single issue voters, and the issue is democrat/republican. Their only source of news is fox ‘news’, talk radio, or people parroting those two. Maga and most republicans really are a cult in regards to their propensity to not listen to anything that contradicts what their leaders say. Their desires, contrary to their party’s actions, about reproductive rights or liberal ideals won’t make a difference. It doesn’t matter if they are a woman, they are intimately tied to their party at this point, and not its principles/policies.

  • My pet belief: It’s because conspiracy theories (the modern parlance) are for unexplained things. Everyone knows that cabals of corporate cat-crushing cunts exist and are evil exemplified, but the truly crazies (who will be the visible and audible ones ranting about a conspiracy) aren’t going to latch on to stuff that’s easily explained by facts. They want to be the masterful mind who metes wisdom to the misled masses, and that takes leaping ahead of evidence (which is a good thing in science when you base it on evidence, and simply posit something that can be tested with the goal of discovering whether it’s true or not, rather than just wholeheartedly believing in your conspiracy theory and refusing to consider evidence against it).

  • This is classic republican style speech/base-rousing. ‘[insert city/state/region/country here] is terrible, it was once so much better, but now it’s horrible. It’s not you [insert crowd euphemism here] here, it’s all those damn [insert boogeyman euphemism of choice here] coming in and ruining things! We’ve gotta take back the city/state/region/country!’

It’s exactly what old what’s-his-face did with the Haitians and dogs, the ‘illegal’ settlement in Texas, etc. Trump and his team are just so stupid because they take it so far that even the republican politicians in those areas look at them with stupefied expressions and correct the record.

  • I wish that the criminal laws against violating someone’s civil rights would get applied in these situations. The mere potential of a (way) post hoc punishment from a civil trial is too small punishment for first amendment violations. Those laws exist to give teeth against police officers violating rights (even if they’re rarely used), and should be used to go after the politicians who direct these actions. In order to not punish poor Greta who just works at the office handling these though, they should be automatically applied to the highest level that signed off on it, and whoever wrote the policy/procedure that is carried out. That will create a daisy chain effect where each person asks their supervisor for approval, and will eventually snowball desantis right onto his face (or desk).

  • While you’re giving good advice, remember to tell these poor folks in the path that staying in the house is not the safest option. They need to be outside the house, or any other form of potential collapse or collateral damage such as cars, sheds, trees, etc. They need to huddle about 15 feet away from any of those things, keeping the object of choice between them and the wind.

If an American flag is nearby, grab it and wrap yourself and your family in it, praying to god with all your might so he will protect you. My aunt Mildred had to do that in Helene, and god saved her by wrapping his holy hands over her family.

  • I, sadly, call bullshit. The last time the democrats were actually good at pushing back forcefully with campaign messaging was when I was still in diapers. Now add in that democratic points actually need a modicum of thought put into them to accept them, while republican points are like grade school insults and comebacks that just ‘sound good,’ and I doubt we’ll get big gains from republican-precipitated disasters.

Edit: Seriously… think about how many people believed that photo of trump wading through floodwaters. And how many others don’t even care about obviously fake images like that, choosing to have the idea that such things are normal and okay.
