  • I upvoted you because you’re making an interesting argument, but I’m definitely more in the Charlie Chaplin camp on political satire, and that ridiculing fascism is a productive thing to do - The Great Dictator was released before the US entered WW 2. Although Chaplin put a lot of work at the end of that movie to make sure everyone knew it was satire and Colbert was a bit less diligent.

Hm. A bunch of media illiterate conservative dingdongs watched the Colbert report and politics now visually looks like that… but nationalism to it’s extreme tends to look like that and Colbert’s team knew that. Fascism and nationalism look like that and I’m not sure satirizing it normalizes it (in general) but neoliberalism and that ‘working across the aisle’ politics (and journalism) that was also trendy at the time did actively normalize it.

  • I’ve had pet mice, they’re pretty neat too - the less timid ones can actually be trained to do tricks and some of them were trained to go back to their cage if they had to pee while out. They’re smarter than people give them credit for, they’re as smart as the dumbest rats they’re just a lot smaller so they’re more afraid of things.

Whereas the hamsters my friends had when I was a kid were basically all bitey assholes, but they were definitely poorly socialized.

  • People act like natal puberty is the neutral choice here - it’s not. The first wrong puberty made me actively suicidal and that’s not unusual. If a kid has gotten so far as to get to a doctor about this, it’s pretty clear that something is up (cis people generally don’t question their gender in the first place) and by waiting on puberty blockers you’re allowing further suffering and irreversible harm to a trans kid. Puberty blockers are a very low risk way of hitting pause and if the kid decides to go through with natal puberty they can just stop taking puberty blockers with no harm other than a delayed puberty.
