Honestly, the US entire election system needs to be ripped out, getting rid of first past the post should be seen as a national emergency.

That would in an instant get rid of Gerrymandering, and open the way for new parties that actually has a chance to get a say.

Now, obviously neither the Dems nor the GOP is in any way interested in that, so it might take a full collapse of the current system for this to happen.

Sadly both current parties in the US are way to the right of a proper political compass, so both will fight proportional representation and getting rid of the EC…

That is the technical reason.

There are plenty of reasons for people to decide to not vote in the election.

• Ever since 2016, the Democrats seem to have run mostly on a plattform of keeping the status quo, Obama ran on “Change”, and managed to change healthcare for the masses with Obamacare. What was the main point in the Democrat campaign in the last election, to an outsider, the answer seems to be “we are not Trump”, which while true, is not interesting or engaging.
• Kamalas stance on Israel/Gaza, this is a stupid reason not to vote, but an important point, it also ties in with the previous point of that the Democrats didn’t seem to have any idea of what direction they would go if they were elected, other than “steady as she goes”.

Had the Democrats found and picked a course with a clear message to of what they were going to do when they won, and dropped the “steady as she goes” attitude, they may have won.

I had a look at the system, and it is a commercial product, I would imagine that their customers have requested these features.

Since you are a customer, why not request your features to be added as well?

Or, better yet, since you have explained that creating an XMPP/Matrix module as an alternative to email requires no coding, and the plattform is open source, why not just slap it together yourself?

You don’t have to write code to configure Matrix/XMPP.

You do realize that the developers need to write code to configure a Matrix/XMPP module? The module doesn’t just appear out your immagination.

Then it will need to be maintained as security holes are discovered.

Tell me again why developers should spend the time and resources to maintain a feature that at best will have a marginal impact on the userbase, over focusing on the core of the project.

Most people have no idea they exist.

That is my point.

If you write software, and need a way for it communicate with the user outside of the app, implementing email is simple, just about everyone with internet access has an email address and it is free.

XMPP/Matrix is a lot of added work that will only benefit those who:

1. Knows what they are and
2. Has or are willing to set up an account and
3. Care enough about it to do that rather than just using email.

I think you will find that the groups of persons who all three critera fits is vanishingly small.

So, please tell me why a developer should focus their time doing that rather than building the core features of the app.

I write this as someone who has used Jabber/XMPP and Matrix in the past, they are great services and I wish they had a longer reach. This is not a hill for you to die on.

XMPP and Matrix are not near universal.

Most people have no idea about that the hell the first one is, and are even more confused as to why you start talking about a movie when you just complained about email.

Try comparing Trump with a scam email and you’ll get why people fall for his antics.

A scam email uses bad grammar and misspellings to deter less gullible people so the scammers can focus on the gullible people instead of wasting resources on people who at best won’t interact, or at worst will try to limit gullible people who are getting sucked in.

A scam email uses hyperbole, this to try and deny you time to think and just proceed without thinking.

The US has a two party system, unless both parties are fighting and using all the tricks, it is invetitable that the party cheating the most will win.

The weak party will just be a pawl in the ratchet moving ever further away from their own goals.

I use this quote to define an adult from a child, seems fitting with these guys:

I have used this definition for a decade, and it has always shown to be accurate.
