I have zigbee running on my home assistant zbt1 but i may get a zbt2 to rin thread and matter

It’s really too bad I don’t have a meter that I can read for the entire house because if I did I would totally put the meter there to get the whole home consumption and then put all the smart plugs under individual devices.

i use a code like “nbrnw1” for like outlets and “nbrnw1&2” if its a dual outlet plug. Its a room code “nbr” and where/what device is, in this case “nelw” means "north wall. So “nbrnw1” is an outlet on the north wall of the north bedroom. “Ksw1” would be an outlet on the south wall of the kitchen.

I would be incredibly interested in this if it could work with Home Assistant and didn’t require any kind of proprietary software to run.

I liked the fact that the yellow had all the radios but did not ever buy one because I had to put it together myself and being blind makes that incredibly difficult.

I thought about getting the green and just getting the cards to do Z-Wave, etc. But haven’t done so yet since I’m currently using a Raspberry Pi 4 that somebody got me for Christmas a few years back

Okay, that’s good to know. If it’s just that the switch doesn’t disconnect or connect, that’s fine, because even if it fails in a connected state, the air conditioner itself only pulls about 5 amps while running, and the plug itself is rated for 15 amps.

It only pulls anywhere close to that when it’s very first starting up and only for a brief moment.

Out of curiosity, what does failure of one of these things look like? I’ve got one that’s running my window air conditioning unit. It draws about 600 watts while it’s running, but when it very first starts up, it pulls about 1700 watts instantaneously and then immediately drops.

That is still within the 15 amps the plug is rated for with a margin of about 100 watts.

I am using Third Reality. It’s been great and since they are part of the Works with Home Assistant program, they actually give updates to their device and are committed to not needing an external account on some sort of stupid app.

Because currently I don’t own a temperature sensor. I plan to own one in the future, but at this moment I do not own one.

Edit: Also, that did not work. I believe it started the timer, but then it did not wait for the timer to finish. It just continued right on with the list of actions and turned off the device again.

Yeah, I like my third reality smart plug, so the third reality temperature sensor is probably the one I will end up going with.

Mainly because the third reality products are official home assistant partners.

So my automation actions now read, turn on device, start the timer that has 37 minutes programmed into it. The delay for 37 minutes that I had before is now disabled, and then turn off device.

If I’m understanding correctly, now that I should turn on the device, start the timer, wait for the timer to finish, and then turn the device off.

Yeah, I have plans on doing that at some point. I’ve just not wanted to spend the money on it lol.

I would likely go with the Third Reality sensor

I’m very leery of Orbot because last time I used it it caused my phone to drain super fast and caused my battery to heat up to such a point that I thought it was going to explode whereas invizible has never done that. I have several apps running over the socks proxy, such as Signal, SimpleX, antennapod, fdroid, monfluo, etc.

Hmm. Good point. I think it should. The primary reason I don’t like using invizible in VPN mode is because I want my standard web browser not to go through Tor so I can access my bank and stuff like that and don’t want to have to switch it between VPN and socks mode.

That and I use private DNS or DOH and I have to turn that off in order to use it in VPN mode.

It’s sad that this app does not support Socks 5 proxy. Otherwise, I could use a Tor hidden service as my HA entry point.

Yeah, that’s what it looks like to me as well, but since I’m currently using Zigbee devices, I would need to either move them to a new hub, or get a second cloud connect, ZBT1, so that one could be dedicated for threads and the other could be dedicated to Zigbee.

Isn’t the HA cloud dongle able to do both because they’re on the same 2.4 gigahertz or whatever?

I haven’t, as of yet, gotten into helpers. But, for something like this, I probably will.

I also intend to put a couple of them on my washer and dryer.

I thought of a light sensor but a vibration sensor might work took. Does it correctly trigger if set to lowest sensativity? If so that might stop the rain triggers. However that might make it not trigger when it was actually opened.
