Well that’s kind of what I’m getting at. How many times does that happen before everybody just goes back to using GPL, MIT, etc…

This probably comes up more than the muppet thing.

I’m all for ethical licensing, and defensive licensing, but we’ll likely end up with an unmanageable soup of various licenses that everyone is nervous about misinterpreting. We lose efficacy and everyone will just default back to the same handful of licenses we’re currently using.
I think unless it was a small number of crystal clear alternative licenses with broadly agreeable terms, we’d get chaos, followed by complacency.

I’m not taking a normative position here. I’m not saying anything about morality, or good guys and bad guys. I’m offering up moral frameworks to justify those actions. My takeaway from Robin Hood wasn’t that he was the villain.
I just don’t get why you’d act like the idea is NOT to take from the ownership class at gunpoint when that’s the whole idea. None of the rest of it works unless you do that. Just say it with your whole chest. Don’t bitch out.
That’s the singular aspect I’m judging.

That’s a bit of a cop out. “There’s no Robin Hood at that specific point because it’s already been taken at gunpoint by the time we dole it out”.
That doesn’t erase the fact that they’re very much is a Robin Hood figure with a gun. And if you want to seize everything at gunpoint You should at least be up front about it.
If your point is true and right in virtuous you do not need a spin on it.

That’s what I was getting at. Don’t soft pedal it.
“There WILL be a Robin Hood type taking shit at gunpoint”.

That’s a fine perspective to have. But it is the textbook definition of robbing someone at gunpoint.
They have something of value that you want, you don’t want to exchange said value for it, so you take it by force… at gunpoint.
Maybe there’s a moral justification for that. Maybe you think they don’t deserve it, or you need it more, or you think their ownership of it represents it’s own form of theft… But they’re definitely getting robbed at gunpoint.

That’s a pretty rose tinted view. It is, generally speaking, “collectivized” at gunpoint.

My experience is that runtipi turned docker into an app store. The technical barriers to entry have never been lower. There are so many helpful voices out there that I’ve never really had to ask anyone a unique question because someone else has typically asked whatever I need to know and been answered.
I do think there are very reasonable arguments to be made that when you are opening a server containing your personal data, to outside access, you probably should be cautioned about your technical limitations. Even if it’s not pleasant to hear.
I honestly don’t think it’s a great idea for most people (myself included) to casually dabble in server administration. There’s a pretty big margin for error. Unfortunately it’s the only private solution for the time being. I don’t trust anyone else.
My first thought

You can source satire as a basis for resistance, while criticizing the use of humor as a means of resistance. Pick a side of your own argument to be on.

Mockery, satire, and other forms of humor are, and always have been, powerful tools against authoritarian forces. It’s why they always co-opt, or censor comedy.
Humor tells them you’re not afraid. It demonstrates that they aren’t as powerful as they’d like the public to think. Because it’s entertaining, it causes people to pay attention and emboldens them to see the limits of their would be oppressors. Its also uplifting in a very scary and sad time.
Not everyone can be, or needs to be, gearing up for a fight. Everyone does need to do what they can. Even if that’s making the gestapo OC gas an unarmed frog.

The only real path out of this is economic collapse.
The administration has engineered a clever slow rolling authoritarian takeover. There is no single line in the sand that you can point to and say this is where authoritarianism starts or this is where fascism starts. And pointing out a dozen things sounds hyperbolic “oh you think everything’s fascism”.’
The American citizens are going to sit here like a slowly boiling frog as long as there’s never one singular shock. And unless there’s a tea party-esque movement on the left in 26 the Democrats are not coming to save us.
But if there’s a crash like '08, and they’re very well could be, they’re not going to be able to sound bite their way out of that.

Both of these things can be true.
Bear in mind during the Cold War the US almost exchanged nuclear missiles rather than let Russia have an installation in our hemisphere, let alone at our border. I’m sure they’d prefer a buffer. It’s not about fearing an imminent attack, it’s about the capacity to attack in the future. Distance is response time.
But that’s NOT really it. He clearly has designs on claiming territory. If they rolled through Ukraine in a few days as they had planned, they damned sure wouldn’t have stopped there.

Friendly reminder, boycotting Disney isn’t just a few streaming services. Everything from Spiderman Underoos to the Lego Millenium Falcon should be avoided like the plague. No Aladin on Broadway, or Theme Parks.
When their partners start to complain and their residuals take a hit they’ll hear you a lot more clearly than just a drop in subscriptions.
If for some reason you can’t cut them off, try to cut back. Disney made 91 billion in 2024, if everyone cuts back by 10% you can carve nearly 10 billion dollars out of their revenue stream.

While I agree with your point about productive messaging, maybe accusing people who have had fascism shoved down their throats of being “okay with fascism” isn’t the most productive approach either. There’s a bit of pot and kettle going on here.
It would be nice if everyone was always level-headed and emotionally mature enough to maximize every opportunity for positive change.
But over here in reality, the exact people that created this mess, with the explicit and overt intention of hurting others, are now reaping what they’ve sown. It’s inevitable that’s some people are going to experience some schadenfreude.
If you’d like others to be all sunshine and rainbows perhaps pump the brakes on the judgment and lead by example.
Ad hominem aside… There’s a reason we want these things to fall into one of these categories. Presumably it’s so that we can actually recycle reuse or compost end of life products.
So, either we want that sump pump disassembled into component level disposal categories so that we can achieve this goal, or we make peace with a disposal plan that involves chucking this in the trash as a fully assembled good that will almost certainly be cost and time prohibitive to dispose of in any other way than tossing it into a landfill.
I’m saying this is a problem and you’re saying it’s not. You’re not identifying a solution to that problem you just name calling… And I’m the troll?
So we don’t want to achieve the recycling, repair, and re-use, we just want to know it’s theoretically possible?
It would be ideal if everyone could take a step back and appreciate that it’s society against the problem of mental health, not the well vs the unwell.
But civility and humanitarianism are frail. They don’t hold up well against humiliation, disgust, or fear. Eventually the general public will opt for an inhuman solution over no solution at all.
