From what I understand people with NPD themselves suffer significantly. It is difficult to feel sorry for them, but I believe they do suffer. Emptyness, deep rooted trauma. It’s why they act the way that they do. The rage is driven by injury and pain.

We tried to get him out 3 years ago and it ended with the closest Senate race in decades, but Mike Lee still won by 10%.
Fuck Mike Lee.

politics @lemmy.world•Protester shot and killed at 'No Kings' rally in Utah, police say
3·1 year agoSure, but he was a leftist in a punk band with lyrics that were very aligned with the values of the protest. Personally, I’m not seeing the right wing mass shooter angle.
Edit: also not really seeing that his intention would be to get a rise out of the libs either… Though if he’s a leftist it could be that he despises libs just as much as he despises conservatives. I’ve just never seen a leftist act with the same intention as right wing militia guys before. But who knows.

6·1 year agoI agree that Gamboa’s actions were at the very least inadvisable.
Pointing out: he starts running after the peacekeeper fires upon him, not before.
I don’t think we know what happened before that video started. Peacekeepers said they shouted at him to drop the weapon. Was he aware of their presence before they shot? What exactly was said?
The eyewitness accounts I’ve seen so far in the news seem perhaps one-sided and I’ve been speculating that the police could have put some trust into the statements of the peacekeepers that they interviewed.
Regarding his ski mask, SLC is a ski town. Many people own balaclavas, and I saw many people at the protest wearing them. I saw pictures of people at the Thursday protest wearing them as well. The organizers pointed out to be careful about taking pictures as some people might not want their identities revealed. Personally, I wore a mask.
A guy in a mask with a gun looks scary, and I don’t think what happened is surprising. However, many of the right wing militias open carry while wearing masks. They do so because it is legal and is in fact their right. What I’m ultimately saying is, given the evidence available, if I were on some (fantasy) jury, I would so far be thinking “reasonable doubt”.

122·1 year agoThat’s what I thought at first, but the video doesn’t support Gamboa raising his rifle. Video is short, and I’m not saying I know the whole story. But another likely possibility in my mind, based on the video, is that Gamboa was attempting to legally open carry. In hindsight might not be the best thing to do at a protest, but it’s his legal right. For now I think it’s best not to jump to conclusions.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex is locking remote streaming behind a subscription in AprilEnglish
2·2 years agoYou can connect Jellyfin to an SSO provider. It still needs work, and client support is lacking. Ideally I think it maybe should be built in rather than a plug-in (would definitely encourage more client support). But it exists.
https://github.com/9p4/jellyfin-plugin-sso
Feature request for oidc/sso:
https://features.jellyfin.org/posts/230/support-for-oidc-oauth-sso
As it stands, you could enable both the SSO and LDAP plugins, and let users do password resets entirely through your auth provider.
Basically, this is all stuff that comes with Plex out-of-the-box, but you sort of have to glue it together yourself with Jellyfin, and it’s not yet in an ideal state. Plex is much much easier to configure. I wouldn’t allow yourself to believe that Plex doing all this for you will make you totally secure through – there’s been multiple incidents with their auth, and IIRC the LastPass attacker pivoted from a weak Plex install. Just food for thought.

8·2 years agoPossibly…the counterexample is tech CEOs jetting off to Burning Man, tripping balls for a week, and coming up with app ideas for things nobody actually needs.
Musk has used a lot of drugs, including psychedelics.
Currently I’m in the middle of what’s apparently one of his favorite book series…communism, post-scarcity, and frequent gender changing are featured front and center.
The “everybody should take psychedelics” argument maybe carried some weight in the 60s when the “squares” were the ones in the way. (Though I still kinda doubt that because look who so many of those “free love” boomers turned into).
But the Republicans of today are not the same as they were then. They are partying, smoking weed, and doing a whole lot of other drugs including psychedelics. It’s possible to eat drugs, realize some profound things, become incredibly self-actualized, and be so addicted to power that it doesn’t really matter anyways.
Or just be so narcissistic that you just ignore the things you read in a book or think about on your acid trip and just carry on…
I don’t doubt the research into psychedelics, and their power on an individual level to help people work through things in a therapeutic way. I am starting to doubt the idea that “if everyone just tripped one time the world would be a better place”.
Your problem is engaging with these people.
I’ve had a mostly positive experience on here, but I don’t try to go hang out in tankieville.
You are making a lot of claims, but without any examples or anything to back those claims I am unconvinced.

I agree, and especially when we’re talking about adults – we are always responsible for our own actions. Those around us are not responsible for us or for managing our emotions or tip toeing around our shame. Projection is one of the really toxic parts of dealing with a narcissist. They attempt to make others responsible for what belongs to them.
